Modern flagship smartphones like the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Galaxy S24 Ultra are visual marvels, but they present a massive technical hurdle for graphic artists and vector illustrators: monolithic camera island modules. Over the last three generations, camera array enclosures have grown by over 38% in surface footprint, protruding significantly into standard canvas layouts.
If you upload a beautiful vertical pattern or illustrative character design, there is a serious risk that the most critical element—be it a character's face, a central glowing cyber logo, or a focal typographic element—will get completely obliterated by the physical camera module cutout.

Understanding the Mechanical Safety Margin
To ensure perfect reproduction, our physical printing labs work with strict millimeter boundaries. We divide the standard smartphone shell dimensions into three distinct zones: the Zero-Placement Zone, the Safe Art Zone, and the Bleed Margin.
1. The Zero-Placement Zone (Top-Left Camera Block)
This is the red zone in our template file. For standard Apple iPhones, this area spans a box from the top-left corner measuring 85mm by 85mm. Any vectors or details inside this region will be physical open spaces in the polycarbonate and TPU. We recommend maintaining clean ambient gradient extensions or flat color backplates inside this space so that no chopped edges are visible around the protective bezel rim.
2. The Safe Art Zone
The sweet spot for all text layers, primary characters, brand tags, and high-contrast lines is located in the bottom two-thirds of the case frame. When laying out vectors in Adobe Illustrator or Procreate, constrain your focal center to an offset of at least 120mm from the top margin and 15mm from both side edges.
3. The 5mm Print Bleed Line
Our ultra-precise UV curing presses wrap the printed image over the curved lateral margins of our Armor Tough cases. If your design stops exactly at the edge of the phone mockup, minor thermal shifting (less than 0.5mm) can leave unsightly white lines at the borders. Always extend your design background at least 5mm beyond the canvas edges.
Pro-Tips for Sizing Submissions
- Export Vectors in RGB: While our printing presses use specialized UV pigments, our calibration software converts standard sRGB profiles much more cleanly than CMYK print files. Keep your source colors vibrant.
- Keep Text High-Contrast: If you are placing legal text or cybernetic layout indicators, ensure they have at least a 2px outer outline or are colored in extreme whites, neon cya, or hot neon pink to match the deep black color bases of our shell composites.
- Use Transparent PNGs for Layering: If you want our premium transparent material series to show the raw titanium back of your phone, submit transparent layers without a solid color background. Our system automatically recognizes alpha channels.
